I was so surprised at Dave (our cat) eating Victoria Sponge on Friday that I forgot to post the info below for your info. Dave, as you can tell, does not follow a Keto diet.
What is the Keto(genic) diet?
Wikipedia describes it as a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carbohydrate diet that originated in medicine and was used mainly to treat hard-to-control epilepsy in children. The diet forces the body to burn fats rather than carbohydrates.
Not all low carb diets are Keto diets and should not be mistaken as such and there is a science behind the Keto diet.
According to popular sources, such as health and fitness media, the Keto diet can speed weight loss, curb appetite, increase athletic performance, brain performance (clarity) and cure various health problems.
A keto diet typically consists of 70 to 90 percent of calories from fat. It is a very strict diet regime and again it is VERY important to do your research, check with your health provider, do it under medical supervision if necessary and do it properly. For most people it is not a long term strategy and does not provide sustainable fat loss. There is very little evidence that a keto diet improves overall athletic performance.
If you really feel you want to try it for whatever reason then please do the above and PLEASE be prepared to stop if it is not agreeing with you. There can be short-term side effects known as the Keto flu which are a group of symptoms that may appear two to seven days after starting a ketogenic diet. Headache, foggy brain, fatigue, irritability, nausea, difficulty sleeping, and constipation, hmmmm sounds like COVID with the added constipation. :)
