One of the components of Total Fitness that I mentioned last week is Medical Fitness:

The Medical Dictionary describes Medical Fitness as “Good health, especially good physical condition resulting from exercise and proper nutrition.”
It’s about a state of health and well-being and being free from disease. All of the components such as being physically active, eating better foods and enough foods, having good emotional health can help your body achieve this (this is in general terms, I recognise that there are health issues that may not be avoided).
Personally I would say it’s also about managing any medical issues you have with regular check ups, following medical advice and keeping track of your own body, noticing changes and being prepared to get medical attention and not putting off going to the doctors if you think there is an issue and taking medication as instructed. This is not to say that we need to follow doctor’s orders blindly. If you’re unsure, ask questions, take notes if you’re in a consultation because you might not remember everything the doctor told you. Do your own research but beware of the internet, not everything you read will be evidence-based. Check your resources. Speak to other people about their experiences (remember everyone is different though) because it may raise more questions you want to ask your doctor about.
We need to be in charge of our own health. I do know it’s not always easy but we owe it ourselves to try our best, don’t you think? And don't forget it's not all about eating your greens and going to the gym and taking life seriously, it's about having social contact, having fun, laughing a lot.
On that note, I wish you all a great weekend. It's Friday Then!
